So, here you are in Ankara, Turkey.
You arrived at noon and the first thing you do is search for a restaurant where you can get a taste of Turkish traditional cuisine. The menu is in Turkish so you need to ask someone to explain what are your options.
"Good morning, what can I get for you today?" the waiter asks.
[[Can you tell me what Mercimek çorbası is?]]
[[Can you tell me what Lahmacun is?]]
[[Can you tell me what Kokoreç is?]]
On the first day in Athens, you woke up very early. You hop on the subway and made your way to a little café. You enjoy your coffee and you're wondering what should you eat.
[[You already ate breakfast at the hotel but you want to buy some food for the road ahead in case you get hungry]]
[[You want to order something sweet to eat with your coffee]]For breakfast you get obwarzanek. Going through this beautiful street you reach Krakow's main square.
As you walk you see the Basilica of the Virgin Mary. It is a cathedral that was built in the 13th century. Furthermore, close to the church stands the monument of a poet - [[Adam Mickiewicz]].
After seeing the main square you visit the Wawel Castle. It sits upon a large hill, it is a former home of many Poland’s leaders. You note that at the bottom of the castle sits a large metal dragon that breathes fire!
[[You take a bus to Kazimierz district]]So here you are in Skopje, North Macedonia.
A part of your journey is about trying out traditional food.
For breakfast you taste fresh bread with [[Ajvar]] - one of the most popular culinary staples in the Balkans.
As you explore the city you have two notable bridges to cross. Pick, which bridge are you going to pass through first:
[[You decide to cross the Stone bridge]]
[[You decide to cross the the Art Bridge]]The waiter explains that Mercimek corbasi is a Turkish lentil soup, of Southeast Anatolian origin. In addition to red lentils, the soup contains carrot, potato, onion and typical Turkish seasonings such as tomato puree, paprika and dried mint.
„Would you like to order it?” the waiter asks.
[[Yes, please.]]
(link-goto: "I'd like to order something else", (history:)'s last)The waiter explains that Lahmacun is an oval-shaped flatbread topped with spicy lamb or beef mince. It’s topped with salad or pickles and lemon juice and it is commonly called turkish pizza.
„Would you like to order it?” the waiter asks.
[[Yes, please.]]
(link-goto: "I'd like to order something else", (history:)'s last)The waiter explains that Kokoretsi is a dish made out of grilled lamb or goat intestines wrapped around seasoned offal, including sweetbreads, hearts, lungs, or kidneys.

(link-goto: "I'd like to order something else", (history:)'s last)After dinner, you visit a mosque.
You note that it is of an impressive size. Unfortunately, you don’t have a scarf with you and you can see the sign saying it’s not permitted to get inside without it. You are not a religious person, but you were curious about the building's architectural point of view so you think it’s a pity that you can’t enter. Thankfully, a man you met outside of the mosque borrows you a scarf.
[[Enter the mosque]]You enter the main mosque where [[namaaz]] is performed. The guide explains that “Every Muslim while doing namaaz faces [[Mecca]].
After the tour is finished the guide asks you if you have any questions about Islam.
[[Can you tell me more about Ramadan?]]
[[What does „Assalaamu Álaikum” means?]]
[[Can you tell me what are the Five Pillars of Islam?]]In languages, such as Persian, Urdu and Turkish, this term is commonly used for the ritual prayer
(link-goto: "Go back", (history:)'s last)The guide explains that Mecca is a city located in Saudi Arabia. It is the holiest of Muslim cities. Muhammad, the founder of Islam, was born in Mecca, and it is in this religious centre that Muslims turn five times daily in prayer. See: [[qiblah]]
(link-goto: "Go back", (history:)'s last)„Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting (sawm), prayer, reflection and community”.

[[A sacred object of worship]] „It is a general greeting in Islamic culture, which means, “Peace be upon you. the tour guide explains." Now I have a question for you. Do you know what Kabba is?"

[[A sacred object of worship]]There are five key practices that all Muslims are obligated to fulfil throughout their lifetime. These practices are referred to as pillars because they form the foundation of Muslim life. The five pillars consist of: the declaration of faith (shahada), prayer (salah), alms-giving (zakat), fasting (sawm) and pilgrimage (hajj).
Now I have a question for you. Do you know what Kabba is?"

Muslims pray toward the Kaba, not to it. The Kaaba “represents the metaphorical house of God and the oneness of God in Islam” the guide explains.

Looking For An Answer
It left his skin on a stone
and turned into stone. A viper.
It grunted from rifle shots
and turned into mist. A wild boar.
It washed its eyes in foam
and turned into a sigh. Day.
In the village of Vrazi Dol
Old father Time has sat down on a stone
and on his fingers
of wisdom
calculates
how many drops of blackberry wine are needed
to prolong his life.
You can ask yourself and still you won't know:
Does time die with man?
